Meet Ilya and Matthias from Berlin, Germany. Ilya is an Actuary and Matthias is a Health Care Consultant. They met in Germany 8 years ago where it was love at first sight! They've been married for 5 years and can't wait to add children to their life together!

"We love to get to know new people. We have met a wonderful donor, with whom we already created a very meaningful bond. We are looking forward to meeting our surrogate and be able to share part of our life with her and her family. We would be happy to get to know her and to spend time with her. If the time and her schedule allow, we would be beyond thrilled by inviting her and her family to visit us in Europe. We could show her our everyday life, to provide an impression what the child’s life going to look like. We both were privileged to be raised by loving families in atmosphere of love, trust, and empathy. We strongly believe that those are the key attributes to the successful and happy family life, and we are looking forward to being able to provide to our child (or children) with the same environment."

Quick overview on a few things you need to know about becoming a surrogate in Canada: 

  • You must be a female of 21-49 years of age

  • Have delivered one or more child(ren) of your own

  • Have experienced healthy pregnancies and births

  • Lead a healthy lifestyle and be physically/mentally healthy in general

Surrogates in Canada are: 

  • Reimbursed all of their expenses. (average $20,000-30,000)

  • Can apply for 15 weeks of maternity leave (if eligible)

  • Have independent legal representation and a legal contract

  • Will travel to the Intended Parents clinic - all costs covered
